Source code and issue tracker?[edit]
I was trying to find the source code and issue tracker for flickr2Commons. Where is it? Should this link to it?

Bug 🐛[edit]
Flickr2Commons uploaded this picture with the description of this picture, the weird part is that I never selected the latter. The first was a duplicate with an already uploaded image on Wikimedia Commons and I specifically deselected the second image to upload this image (which became green but wasn't uploaded). --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) ("The Chinese Coin Troll" 👿) (Articles 📚) 09:50, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
File names[edit]
I've just had a large batch (too many to rename manually) fail, because "Transfer failed [1] : /⧼titleblacklist-custom-filename⧽". The files have names like (30756156060).jpg
, so that's fair.
It would be good if Flickr2Commons had a file renaming feature, like that in the Upload Wizard. This would allow the user to set a name, say, "Foobar museum by John Doe", and would then append sequential numbers (so "Foobar museum by John Doe - 01", ""Foobar museum by John Doe - 02", etc. Alternatively, allow the user to specify a prefix, like "Foobar museum by John Doe", and upload the images as, say, "Foobar museum by John Doe - (30756156060).jpg" Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:47, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
File size anomalies[edit]
Look at File:Neckera crispa (11747892883).jpg and its source https://www.flickr.com/photos/58896109@N02/11747892883/ . The largest image I can find on the Flickr page is 2048 × 1622, 1783 KiB, whereas on Commons we have 3304 × 2616, 9598 KiB. Where is the latter from: resampling? Served with a URL hidden from me? And why data size differ more than 5× with less than 3× difference in number of pixels? Sizes in pixels similarly differ for File:Most probably Liris niger (31773344033).jpg: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/256/31773344033_1b3dce9823_h.jpg (which I presume to be the source) is 1600 × 1027, 363 KiB, whereas this revision uploaded to Commons is 1808 × 1160, 419 KiB.
May @Magnus Manske or anybody else explain what is this? Is it a problem with my browser not getting—from Flickr—a link to each of highest-res images? May Flickr alter files since the transfer event? A mistake by human operator? Or, perhaps, a bug in Flickr2Commons? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 21:32, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- Incnis Mrsi, the max sizes 3304px resp. 1808px are downloadable from flickr as I just tested. --Achim (talk) 14:33, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Which are URLs and are they static? Why can my browser (Pale Moon 27.0.2 on Unity desktop (Ubuntu), 1366 × 768 ) ignore the highest resolution? Or may I miss some special button? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:14, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Request to add Language parameter to descriptions[edit]
I find Flickr2Commons incredibly helpful, but one small issue is that when automatic descriptions are transferred, they lack a language template (e.g. {{En}} or {{Fr}}). Similar to the option in Upload Wizard, I would like to request a language menu be added to enable selecting a language. Perhaps the default could be no language (as is the current situation_, or the preferred language of the User. Thanks, -Animalparty (talk) 23:23, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- The default would be, obviously, the language preferred by the Flickr account. In any case, what hinders to add enveloping {{en|…}}, {{ja|…}}, or similar by hand? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 10:51, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- It is a huge hindrance when transferring large amounts of images, such as a Flickr album. What's faster, copying and pasting 200 file descriptions, or clicking one button? Animalparty (talk) 17:57, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Animalparty: you can develop a user script which adds the enveloping language template in one click. This solution can work in any Web application and doesn’t require any change to the latter. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 18:19, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Incnis Mrsi: I know nothing about script developing or web programming, which is why I requested a change. I believe a single change here be more efficient than a daisy chain of tools and scripts. A script to automatically add language templates to existing unspecified file descriptions already on Commons would certainly be helpful, but if language could be specified before importing, all the better. new update issues[edit]
@Magnus Manske: (or anyone else). It looks like this tool was refurbished about a week ago. I've noticed some issues. First, embedded URLs in Flickr descriptions appear to get disrupted when imported (compare File:Exploring (9369722804).jpg to its counterpart). Secondly, the upload comment ("Transferred from Flickr via #flickr2commons") no longer includes the link (previously "Transferred from Flickr via Flickr2Commons"). Lastly, the File name field seems a lot smaller than before, making it more difficult to edit or view file names. Thanks! Oh and one additional issue: The square format of the thumbnails makes it somewhat more difficult to evaluate photos, e.g. if I only need to import a subset of photographs from an album, having pats of the image cut off makes it more difficult to identify the intended iamges. -Animalparty (talk) 21:15, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
Flickr-User is not the photographer[edit]
With Flickr often a group of user use only one account. The photographer is named in the description of file. My question: How is it possible to set instead of the Flickr-User name or additional the name of photographer, which is necessary with CC licences. Because my english is not so high, so I will repeat it in german too.

Please Help Me[edit]
I am trying to upload this photo, but the tool is very unintutive and refuses to do if, for unknown reasons.
I Have spent the better part of 40 minutes trying to upload this photo per the instructions here, to no avail. The instructions say "copying the last string of numbers in the URL when you are on a webpage for a photo." which is "16049400225". I do that, and click the run button, and get a box requesting more input, man. After repeating three more times, I add the usernumber "30478819@N08", and press run. If then proceeds to run a little process telling me that "12907 files found so far (100% done)" which I already found by going to Marco's page on flickr. I am aware the maintainer does not read this

Files already on Commons[edit]
Hello! Is there a way of searching for images that have already been uploaded to Commons? I have tried to upload this but is (very briefly) says it is already uploaded. I have tried to search commons with the name of the file as given on Flickr (Chamber February 2018) and the description (Black Rod, Sarah Clarke, on her first day in the chamber), and variations on the URL including just the number (40393347742). Incorrect format for location template[edit]
When transferring an attempt is made to populate {{Location}} template, however the source is being added incorrectly. Currently it looks like this: {{location|0|0|source:Flickr}}

@Renek78 and Karl Gruber: the URL for authorizing this tool has been changed.
- The new, current URL is https://flickr2commons.toolforge.org/api.php?action=authorize
For every interface language this URL has been changed for the key "auth_warning" using the Translation Tool, e.g. for german (change the language code for your language)
For the polish language this already has been done, now I changed it also for the german language. If it not yet working for your interface language you just access the URL
directly to authorize this tool for the current browser session. --M2k~dewiki (talk) 21:20, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Wrong copyright claim at the source[edit]
At https://www.flickr.com/photos/biblarte/4369670659/in/set-72157623341498971/ they tagged all the photos as CC-BY-NC-ND 2.0, although they were taken on December 1959 and are therefore {{PD-Portugal-URAA}}. Realised after adding a fair number of images that whilst the formatting for "append everywhere" is [[Cateogry:CATEGORY NAME]], the correct formatting for the space under each image is just CATEGORYNAME. Use it for entire user's photoset or for uploading files by tags or if you want to upload a single image. Following these simple tricks it will allow to avoid uploading dupes by almost 100%.
